Year 4 had a very busy week where they all became avid members of Fizzy's Healthy Athletes Club!
The children took part in a 'Don't Touch, Tell' workshop
Collected a variety of data
Completed a number of health and fitness investigations
Tasted a range of foods and designed healthy sandwiches
Now the children can't wait to create and evaluate their sandwiches very soon!
Chester Zoo Workshop 4- Sing for Songbirds
We had our last Workshop and it was a special occasion where all of the pupils in Key Stage 2 collaborated to create a bird sculpture that they weaved with willow. Please go to take a look at their fantastic creation which is currently sitting in the Foundation Phase Outdoor Area.
April
Cricket Training
Throughout April and May the children in Year 4 have been having cricket training in their weekly P.E lessons. They have all learned many new skills and enjoyed playing a new sport!
March
Chester Zoo Workshop 3- Sing for Songbirds
During our third Zoo Workshop we did some bird watching on the school grounds. The children were amazed at the variety of birds that they spotted- especially the buzzards that kept circling over the nearby fields!
The class then walked up the school field to look for ways that they can help the native birds and sketched plans of their ideas.
Tennis Training
This Term Year 4 have also had an outdoor tennis session where we learnt lots of new skills!
Key Stage 2 Roman Workshop
On the 21st March the pupils were really lucky to have Mr Tony Cope bring his Interactive Roman Workshop into school. All of the children absolutely loved the practical experiences that they had and they were full of excitement throughout the day!
Experiences like...
Dressing up as Romans
Archery
Playing Roman style instruments
Being archaeologists and digging for Roman artifacts
Exploring real artifacts
Using catapults and building the city of Rome
Weaving, making Plaster of Paris mosaic pieces and bracelet making
Playing Roman games and creating Latin book marks
Saint David's Day
In preparation for our Saint David's Day service Year 4 made delicious Welsh Cakes! We used so many skills during the process and had lots of fun along the way.
Estimating Measuring Mixing
Following a recipe Rubbing the mixture Cracking an egg
The children also learned a Welsh song and wrote their own poetry based on 'An Ode to the Welsh cake' by Cathryn Scott which they performed during the assembly.
World Book Day 2017
As always, it was great to see that so many pupils made such an effort with their costumes!
In the classroom we became 'data collectors'. We focused on one page or paragraph from our favourite book, counted and then recorded the amount of letters in the different words. We then used this data to create our own bar charts showing the variety of word length. Next we analysed the data to work out the most and least common length of words in our book.
Chester Zoo Workshop 1 and 2- Sing for Songbirds
Key Stage 2 pupils are once again taking part in the Chester Zoo Conservation project and this year's theme is all about songbirds. The children have been having a great time learning all about songbirds from the UK, Europe and across the World.
Well done Year 4!
The class have worked so hard over the last few months and they have all contributed towards earning the whole class treat which was a half hour session on the gymnastic equipment! It was so lovely to see you all having lots of fun :-)
January
Pen Licenses
As you know, the children in Year 4 are all working their way towards getting their 'Pen Licenses' and their very own school handwriting pen to use in class.
Below we have our first group of children who have been awarded their 'Provisional' license.
Keep up the hard work everybody! :-)
December
Christmas Around the World Quiz
Miss Williams organised a fun interactive quiz for the children to take part in during the last week of Term! Pupils enjoyed using the laptops to find the answers to the questions in order to solve the anagram.
'Coming Home' Freeze Frames
The children have been reading a book called 'Coming Home' by Michael Morpurgo. The Waitrose Christmas advert this year has been based on this book and the children have loved exploring the story in more detail over the last couple of weeks.
Year 4 took part in a Drama lesson with Miss Williams, our Associate Teacher which was linked to the story book. The class worked in small groups to create freeze frames that showed the significant scenes from the book. We then pieced the scenes together to show the whole story.
November
Airbus and North Wales Wildlife Trust Orchard Planting Event
Here are just a few photographs of Year 4's contribution to the special whole school event that happened near the end of the month.
National Takeover Day
On November 18th it was National Takeover Day at Northop Hall C.P School. As always the children had a great deal of fun being taught by their Year 6 teachers!
Remembrance Haikus
In Literacy lessons this month pupils had been learning all about structured poetry. Here are some examples of the haikus that they wrote for Remembrance Day, accompanied by their stunning water colour poppy artwork.
Firework Artwork
The children loved using pastels and chalks to create colourful pieces of artwork for Bonfire Night.
October
'May The Forces Be With You'
Our Topic during Autumn Term has been linked to Forces and the children have been exploring different forces and their effects through a number of Science investigations.
We learned about friction and gravity by investigating how a variety of surfaces and how different heights of a ramp could effect when a car would start to move and how fast/slow the car might travel down the ramp.
We also investigated what would happen if we dropped a range of objects into flour.
It was lots of fun making craters in the flour! For this investigation we used our measuring, observing and recording skills. We found out about mass and how objects can be similar sizes or shapes but have a different mass which then created a deeper or wider crater.
September
Roald Dahl Day
On Tuesday 13th September the class joined the rest of the school in celebrating Roald Dahl Day.
It was brilliant to see the children dressed up and enjoying the celebrations linked to the author's life and his work.
Are you able to guess who we came dressed up as?
In class, Year 4 had a 'Fantastic Mr Fox' themed day. Pupils wrote profiles about their favourite characters from the story, painted incredible portraits of Fantastic Mr Fox himself and created their own ICT games linked to the the book.
Year 4's School Council Representatives
On Monday September 12th the children elected two of their classmates to be Year 4's School Council representatives for the year. You both gave fantastic speeches so congratulations to the pair of you!
