Bailey Hill Forest School Trip
We have had a fantastic time at Bailey Hill Forest School! We found out about the history of Bailey Hill and its castle, We wrote poems using our senses, completed an obstacle course that was protected by guards, played forest themed games, built our own castles and told stories. What a great day!
Traditional Welsh Music
Today we had a visit from Huw from Upbeat Music and Arts. We listened to him play some traditional Welsh instruments and then he taught us how to clog dance! We had a lot of fun!
Dydd Dewi Sant
We have been using a talk for writing approach to learn a poem called ‘St David’s Day’ written by Brenda Williams to recite in front of Year 3.
Homes in the Past
We have enjoyed learning about how Iron Age roundhouses were constructed and what they looked like inside. We wanted to see how big a roundhouse would have been so we measured circles with the diameter of 8cm and we added some items inside that we have been learning about.
School Council Elections
Today we held our School Council elections. Twelve children prepared and delivered a presentation or speech to members of our class. All of the children did a fantastic job. We were so impressed by them all, nominating just two was extremely difficult! After each member of the class cast their votes, the winners were revealed. Congratulations to the two successful candidates!
Presentations about the Paralympics
We have been carrying out research into the Paralympics as part of our ‘Diversity Inquiry Project’. We worked together in groups, each member of the group had a role to play in gathering information and putting it together to create a presentation. We shared the presentation with the rest of our class.
Theo’s Story
We have been listening to Theo’s story. Theo is a boy who is visually impaired. He talks about how he does not like to be treated differently by others and how he doesn’t like people to do things for him just because of his disability. He explains how good communication helps to support him during his daily activities. Theo is learning braille, incase he looses his sight altogether.
This week we got the opportunity to experience what it was like to read and write in braille. We also got to experience the importance of having good communication skills as we participated a range of activities with Year 2.
Our First Day at Pentre!
We have had a fantastic first afternoon at Pentre, some of us took to the climbing walls whilst others went gorge walking. We have even ventured out on an evening walk through the forest. We finished off our busy day relaxing with cookies and a hot chocolate .
Diwrnod Shwmae!
Tomorrow it’s Diwrnod Shwmae. A day to encourage people to share Welsh language with others, whether at work, in the shops or with friends and family.
Doodle-Along Live with Liz Pichon and Tom Gates!
This morning we had so much fun taking part in Liz Pichon’s live doodle-along session, to promote her new book ‘Happy To Help’. We found out lots of interesting information about the author and illustrator of the famous Tom Gates series.
An Introduction to Sign Language
This week we took part in a sign language workshop. We were introduced to some basic signs that we can use everyday. We even learnt a song too!
Harvest!
We used our sign language skills to perform a song for our Harvest Service. We did ourselves proud as we performed in front of the whole school!
