Today was the day that we have been building up to in year 4, placing our handmade chocolates in to our own packaging designs! For weeks, year 4 have been developing their market research skills, data collection, design skills and creativity to create their own unique chocolate products. They have turned out fantastically and look so professional! I know that all children have gained so much from our chocolate inquiry this term and importantly have really enjoyed the experience.
This afternoon, year 4 had the opportunity to develop their coding skills by trying out a range of exciting digital equipment. They used the MTiny, Sperho Indi and J2 Code on HWB. They really enjoyed coding them to do different missions and we discussed how coding can support them in their future lives and possible careers!
Year 4 and 5 joined in with the BBC safer internet live lesson today, the focus of the lesson was to teach the children to spot scams online and what to do when you see something which is too good to be true!
Bringing maths to life, turning the textbook problem in to a real world problem. ‘ how can we measure the length of the beach towel?’
This week the pupils have been carrying out their crater investigations. They wanted to investigate the best surface to drop a ball in to to create craters. They decided to drop in to: jelly, sand, flour and yoghurt. They found that the flour gave the best results with the largest diameter and depth of craters, as it was similar to the dusty surface of the moon!
Year 4 showed so much resilience this afternoon when we were gorge walking. This was a real challenge for us but we overcame all of the tricky sections along the way. The children looked out for each other and used their communication skills yet again. Da iawn pawb!
We really enjoying canoeing this morning on Llyn Brenig. The sun was shining and the water was still, allowing the children to perfect their rowing and communication skills on the lake. They also had the chance if they wanted, to jump in to the lake to finish!
Pentre Llyn Cymmer
We have got here safely, the children are so excited. We had a nice hot sausage roll, beans and salad for lunch and then made our beds in the dorms. We had a really busy afternoon rock climbing and hiking in the mountains. All children were great and showed some real grit and determination when climbing using the harnesses and guide ropes!
More pictures to follow tomorrow!
Year 4 are busy learning how to input data about famous rockets in to Excel Spreadsheets! An important data collection and data recording skill ✔️
We had a great but wet day at Deeside leisure centre for the multi sports event yesterday! The children experienced lots of different sports from cricket, football, dodgeball and many more! Da iawn pawb.
Outdoor learning lesson 1
The children were fantastic during our very wet first outdoor learning session!! We were given the big question ‘if there is life on other planets, what might it look like?’ The children then worked together to gather natural resources to create their images of what they thought life in outer space could look like.
Spacecraft Crash Landing!
We began our inquiry by investigating some mysterious objects which were found on our school grounds 🤔 the children were so excited when we showed them the bits that look like they’ve come from some sort of space craft! We will now continue our learning by looking at many aspects of space exploration, the solar system, forces and much much more!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
