Money - We have been learning all about money, recognising different coins. Paying for items in our toy shop, speaking in welsh and using the correct coins to pay. Also playing money games.
World Book Day - Mari Jones
As part of our ‘World Book Day’ celebrations, we listened to the story of Mari Jones. We thoroughly enjoyed joining in with the acting-out of this story. We learnt how Mari had to work hard and save her money until she had enough to buy a Bible of her own.
We had an amazing day at Chester Zoo. We saw lots of animals and enjoyed listening to the story of Winnie (the owl) and her wishes. We walked a very long way and we were all very tired! Year 1 were absolutely brilliant all day.
We had a fantastic afternoon at our Caffi Crempog! All staff, children and invited guests enjoyed eating pancakes and speaking in Welsh. Bendigedig pawb!
We celebrated Dydd Santes Dwynwen. We listened to the story of St.Dwynwen, wrote about Dwynwens’ three wishes, weaved over heart shapes and even thawed Maelon from the ice!!
Mathematical Development. During our maths lessons we have been learning about tens and ones. We enjoy working together with our Learning Partners.
Collecting Christmas Data. We asked questions about Christmas and we produced tally charts and graphs using Purple Mash.
Christmas 2023
Wow what a busy half term! The children have enjoyed lots of fun Christmas activities and have been able to develop many skills in all areas of learning.
Remembrance Day.
We watched the CBeebies animation about Poppy Day. We talked a lot about the importance of remembering those that had sadly died or have been injured because of fighting. We learnt about poppies and why we wear them. The children liked looking at the War Memorial and the poppy wreaths in the village.
Anti - Bullying Week: Odd Sock Day
Year 1 have agreed that the most important ‘Golden Rule’ is ‘BE KIND!’
We are all different but we can all be kind.
We found out lots of information about pumpkins! We ordered them by size, we measured them, we touched them and described them, we learnt about different types of pumpkins (with unusual names!)We drew them, we made craft ones, we looked inside one, we labelled the parts and we learnt the life-cycle of a pumpkin through a fun song!
We have been measuring our bodies and parts of our bodies using different things to measure with. We found out that the taller children in the class have longer feet than the shorter children!
As part of our Inquiry work we looked at how to keep our bodies healthy. We looked at some foods and discussed why we though they were healthy or unhealthy for us. We designed and made healthy dinner plates with our Learning Partners.
We celebrated Shwmae Day!
Our first days in Year 1 - September 2023

A famous author, Neil Griffiths, came to share stories with us.
We had so much fun listening to Neil and looking at his books.
