Our Growth and Development
Today, the children have been using their homework to make their own development timeline. They have drawn what they looked like at different ages using the photos they have looked at. They have also added on details such as their first word, when they started a hobby and when they took their first steps.
Animal Databases
We have been using j2e databases to collect data about different animals. The children had to choose which data to collect and include these as data fields. They used their knowledge about animal groups to do this. Then they chose an animal to fill in the data about.
Spring Term
New Inquiry Project - Cool Cymru
Our new Inquiry is well underway in Year 3. We’ve thought of things we already know about Wales and things we’d like to know. The children realised they weren’t sure which towns and cities were in Wales so we’ve been using atlases and online maps to explore places in Wales.
Autumn Term
Our Inquiry Project
Today, the Year 3 children have presented their PowerPoints to the Year 4 class. They had a practice with our class first before presenting to their audience. They have worked very hard on the PowerPoints over the last few weeks and learned lots of new IT skills as well as finding out about disability sport and art activities. They have overcome some nerves and did a brilliant job speaking in front of others.
No-one Wraps Like an Elf
Year 3 have been amazing in our school Christmas play! They sang so well, came on at the right times, remembered all the song words and did some wonderful background acting. I’m very proud of them.
Inquiry Project Research
The children have been researching activity ideas that a child with a disability could do, with the aim to create their own activity. They decided if they were interested in sport, art or music and found a partner to work with. They have learned about safe searches and how to use appropriate key words to find relevant information. Our next step will be designing an activity!
Henry Fraser Art
We have looked at art work created by a paraplegic artist and saw a video of how he uses specially adapted brushes in his mouth to paint. Some children tried mouth painting for themselves (don’t worry, the brushes were cleaned and sanitised) while others tried to reproduce his pictures using their hands.
PowerPoint Slides
We have been learning about the musician Evelyn Glennie and made a PowerPoint slide about her life. The children learned how to insert a text box then change the font, size and colour of the writing; how to insert a picture; how to add animations; and how to change the background. They also had to share their work with me by creating a link. They have worked so hard!
Reading Buddies
Today, we met our reading buddies. We have been matched up with Year 4 and Year 1 pupils who we will be meeting once a week to share reading books. It was lovely getting to mix together and getting to know some different people.
European Day of Languages
Today we’ve been celebrating different languages in Europe. We’ve learned 8 different ways to say “hello”, matched common words and phrases, found European countries in a word search and made European landmark sun catchers.
