Croeso i flwyddyn 2
Welcome to Year 2
Welcome back to school everyone! I am delighted with the way Year 2 have settled in to school this first week back. They have all shown lots of independence coming in each morning and have all worked very hard. We even managed to get changed for PE today in record-breaking time, with no lost jumpers! Da iawn pawb! I have reminded the children about having their names inside their jumpers and PE kits today - just in case they do get lost! Your support with this is greatly appreciated.
Have a look at some of the photos to see the children settling in this week. More to follow as the term progresses.
Roald Dahl Day
13th September
Year 2 have been reading James and the Giant Peach. Today we had a peach tasting. Most children couldn't wait to taste the peaches and I am delighted to say that everyone tried some! We used our senses to explore words to describe the peach. Zachary thought they were 'delicious' and has discovered he now likes peaches, and Nancy thought they tasted 'sensational'!
Dogs Trust Visit
We had a visit from the Dogs Trust. Natasha pretended to be a dog and we learnt how to look after a dog by giving it the correct food and drink and the importance of picking up the poo using a special bag! We also talked about how to treat dogs and staying safe around unfamiliar dogs when we are outdoors.

Wrexham AFC trip
Year 2 had a wonderful time on our trip to meet former Northop Hall pupil, Matt Sargent, at the Racecourse stadium. We are grateful to coach Steve Dale for helping to organise the trip and set up the 'press conference' with Matt, who has just signed his first professional contract with the club! The children asked him lots of questions and learnt lots about Matt's hard work, self-belief and perseverance to get where he is today.
Liverpool Maritime Museum Trip - 4th June 2019
We had a fantastic time at the Maritime Museum in Liverpool today! Working together in groups, we did lots of research to find out more about our topic - Titanic. When we got back to school we presented the information we had found out to the class. All the children are now mini Titanic experts!
Science Day
We had a great time on our whole school Science Day. Thinking about our Titanic topic, we investigated floating and sinking. We designed and made boats to float. We did learn more about floating from our mistakes and talking to our friends about how best to modify our designs! We also had a question to investigate - 'Will an orange float?' and 'If you take off the peel, will it float?' We had lots of fun with this and it helped us to understand how air in an object can help it to float. We also had a visit from a Marine Biologist who talked to us about icebergs and marine life in the Atlantic ocean. In the afternoon, we enjoyed an amazing chemistry show with live demonstrations. What a busy day!
