Welcome to the Year 5 class page! Here you will be able to find class newsletters, photographs of work, announcements and any other important information for school.
Decathlon-Mid way point
The children completed their next Decathlon and they were excited to see how much they’d improved on their skills!
Skateboarding
At the end of the month, the class were so lucky to have a skateboard instructor come in to teach them some skateboarding skills. The children had so much fun and lots of them said that they were inspired to take it up as a hobby!
Investigating the human skeleton
The children had the opportunity to learn all about the features and characteristics of the human skeleton.
They then put what they learnt to the test by creating structures that could support a tennis ball from a certain height. Next, the children were challenged to create a structure that would protect a tea cake when it was dropped from a certain height. These investigations allowed the children to develop their understanding of certain bones in the human body as well as what their purposes are, such as maintaining stability and structure or protecting vital organs.
Investigating how muscles work
The class learned all about how skeletal muscles only pull in one direction so they work in pairs by contracting and relaxing to move the limbs. They then had a go at creating their own cardboard model showing how biceps and triceps work in an arm.
Investigating the human digestive system
The class wanted to know what happens to the food that we eat so we had a really practical and messy way of finding out!
Internet Safety and cyber-bullying
PC Lee came in to talk to the class about how to stay safe online and he also gave them lots of reminders about cyber-bullying, being kind online and what to do if they ever find themselves in an unpleasant situation online.
April
Decathlon
We kicked off our Summer Term topic with an energetic and fun day filled with a variety of physical activities such as; running a lap and a sprint, seated over-head throw, tennis ball balance, bean bag throw, vertical jump, hula hooping and tennis ball bounce. The children collected data from their performances in each activity and they will be working hard to develop their own skills over this next term. The children will get the chance to take part in another decathlon at both a mid way and final point with the main aims being that they have all managed to improve on their own data and feel an amazing sense of achievement due to putting effort and practice into their skills!
I can’t wait to follow their journey through this topic and see what they achieve 😁
Easter Egg hunt
The children all took part in an Easter egg hunt around the school grounds, it was eggcellent 🐣
March
