We are becoming increasingly concerned about the potential risk that a child or adult may become seriously injured due to dangers linked to vehicles around the proximity of the school.
The Community Police Officer has been contacted by residents of Llys Ben who are concerned at the dangerous driving and parking of parents during drop off and collection times. We kindly ask that wherever possible parents make every attempt to walk with children to school or, if using a vehicle, to park in the Pavilion car park. Local residents have also complained about the number of cars parked on the road at 11.25a.m which is for Nursery collection. At this time of the day there should definitely be an adequate amount of parking in the Pavilion car park. Please do try to use this facility to keep all school users and local residents as safe as possible.
I would also like to remind you of the dangers of allowing children to exit cars directly onto the road. If you are forced to drop children off on the road please, for their safety, ensure they exit the car on the pavement side not directly into the road.
It has been great to see a larger number of our Year 5 and 6 pupils walking to and from school independently. This will not only have positive benefits for the vehicle situation outside school but also for the children's health and well being. If you feel your Year 5 or 6 child is responsible enough for this, and you would like your child to walk home from school on their own, please inform your child's class teacher and then make sure your child knows how to keep themselves safe as a pedestrian.
The Community Police Officer has offered to come and carry out monitoring of the current parking/driving situation in order to try to remind school users of how to park responsively.
Over recent weeks we have also noticed an increased number of incidents where pupils, parents and other adults, collecting and dropping off pupils, or visiting school are crossing the Staff car park.
We request that no one visiting the school crosses the staff car park for any reason at any time of day, including for Breakfast Club drop off, after school club pick up or when leaving the school office to go around to pick up pupils. Please use the two smaller pedestrian gates and footpaths either side of the car park for all entries and exits to the school. I am sure you will appreciate that it can be difficult to spot small children when reversing or pulling out of a parking space and it would be very easy for an accident to happen.
Our Staff car park gates are currently closed from 8.45am until 3.30pm, but whether closed or not, this route should never be used.
Please could you pass all of this advice on to any adult responsible for dropping off or picking up your children before or after school.
Thank you for your support in this very serious matter.
