Would you like to take part in The Great Bug Hunt 2020?
The challenge is pretty simple - go outside, equip the children with magnifying glasses (if you have them) and notepads, and point them at the nearest hedges, flower beds, trees, long grass, logs, stones, rocks... and let them explore and report back what they find.
The competition is divided up into four categories: Ages 4-5, 5-7, 7-9 and 9-11 .The entries might be a poster, a report, a video or even a podcast or poem! You could make it into a project – if they find a spider or woodlouse, find out all about it. We would love it if you could let your teachers know if you enter the competition and if you have a class blog, share your findings with each other too.
The closing date for entries is 12th June 2020.

Good luck and have fun outdoors!

There are details of how to make a peg doll in the parents' section on the website. Look under home learning and then in the expressive arts icon.
If you are able to make a peg doll by using either a wooden "dolly peg" or by using a piece of card that would be great. All of the peg dolls will be added to a whole school art display.Try to make the doll have some similarities to yourself e.g hair & eye colour and perhaps wearing clothing which tells others something about yourself. It could be a football strip of a team you support, a dance outfit, scout, guide, school uniform for example. Maybe you are a Harry Potter fan and would like to dress your doll in something from the "Wizarding World" We look forward to seeing your creations! Enjoy being creative!
Many people are finding the current situation challenging and especially some children, who are finding it very difficult with new routines, not seeing their friends and a range of worries.
We have added some new links in our 'Home Learning' section (Parents) - 'Health & Well-being', which leads to websites with advice and support to help your children.
We also have added a book especially written for children explaining the current situation with coronavirus. Please follow the link here to access it.
At this time of change and uncertainty we know that the mental health and well-being of everyone, but especially children and young people, is put under pressure.
Liz Gregory, consultant clinical psychologist at the Aneurin Bevan health board, believes there are simple steps to help children cope during the coronavirus crisis
She said: "In just the way anxiety spreads, so does calm. So we're trying to spread calm across homes up and down the country".
C - create new routines and rituals.
A - ask a grown up, don't let worries stay in your head.
L - do lovely things and laugh. You can't be anxious and laugh at the same time.
M - make the most of this.
She added: "What will you tell future generations about how you coped with the lock down?"

Although it is now the school holidays there are still links on our Home Learning pages in the Parents section of the website with ideas and links to follow if you need some activities to do
Purple Mash is a great place to explore and some teachers have set you challenges over the last couple of weeks, like replying to emails, looking at 2Dos, posting on shared display boards and writing on a blog.
We'll all be back in touch after the two week holiday with more news.
Stay safe, stay home and keep washing those hands!
We have added some story time and reading links onto pages of our Home Learning section in the Parents area.
Also, use the link below to read the letter written by famous children's author Michael Morpurgo with great advice for the current times.
