Keep up to date with all the latest news in school and on the website.
All of the KS2 children had a great day at Chester Zoo as part of the Sing for Songbirds project.
Despite the very hot weather we managed to see a range of different animals and took part in 4 different workshops: Learning about captive breeding of Bali Starlings which are critically endangered; Sights and sounds of bird markets of Indonesia; Bird Feeder Making and Bird Watching for our native birds. We even had live music to accompany our lunchtime, provided by the writer of the Sing for Songbirds song we have been learning.
We would like to thank Anya and Chester Zoo for inviting us to take part in this important project.
There will be more photos on class pages soon I'm sure.
Our Healthy Lifestyles Week has just finished and was a great success. The children throughout the school worked on individual, group and class projects. We had a range of different visitors, including presentations from John Piper with "Don't Touch Tell" and "Don't Drink Think". PC Ashton also worked with a number of classes on subjects which included, a safe haven (domestic abuse), drugs awareness and internet safety.
In class, a range of activities were planned linked to personal hygiene and dental hygiene, healthy eating, and the importance of regular exercise for the body.
Tuesday was a 'Science Day' within the Healthy Lifestyles Week with a range of investigations taking place.
It was great to see so many children also trying hard to walk, cycle or scoot to school. Our lunchtime laps around the field were also hugely popular and enjoyable!
We will be maintaining our emphasis on having a healthy lifestyle across the school, promoting healthy snacks at break time and healthy packed lunches too.
Individual class pages include more detail of what took place last week, so check them out.
What a great day in KS2! As part of our Sing for Songbirds project all the children had an opportunity to contribute to making a large willow songbird sculpture for our school grounds.
Sarah Gallagher Hayes of 'Twigtwisters' worked with all the children from Year 3 to Year 6 to create an original, all natural sculpture. The finished work is in the Early Years play area. Please have a look at the final work.
Our thanks to Sarah and Anya, the Safari Ranger from Chester Zoo, for organising this great day.
We are now all looking forward to our KS2 visit the zoo before the end of term, where 4 specific workshops have been developed for the project.
The new term dates for the academic year 2017-18 are now available on the School Terms Dates section of the News and Events pages. These will also be posted on the Website Calendar shortly.
Please note the Training Day on January 8th is yet to be confirmed, and may be altered.
Please also note that Training Days may not be the same as those posted on the Flintshire website.
The eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed a slight change to our Homepage. We now show the Weekly Attendance of each year group at the bottom of the page. This will be updated at the end of every week. so we can see which class have the best attendance. The greater your child's attendance, the greater their prospects for learning, so it is vitally important they miss as little school as possible.
Well done Year 1, Year 4 and Year 6 who had 100% attendance this week. Who will it be next week?
Look out for our new Attendance information leaflet which will be published soon.
As you are aware the National Tests will be taking place in school from Wednesday 3rd to Wednesday 10th May. These tests are for Year 2-Year 6 in Primary school and Year 7- Year 9 in Secondary school.
We will make the process of completing these tests as supportive as possible for your children, but your support in helping them arrive at school ready to do their best will be appreciated. Early nights and arriving in school on time are important for your children at all times but particularly during this test time.
Please follow the link below to read the Welsh Government information about the National Tests to find out more.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
