Keep up to date with all the latest news in school and on the website.
Last week's Maths Workshop held in school for parents had plenty of great ideas and a little friendly competition thrown in too. Gareth Metcalfe, a maths expert teacher, who has been working in school with pupils and teachers over the last year, and will be again this year, provided some great practical ideas and games to play with your children as well as providing some theory and background to the importance of helping develop Number Sense for children through visual methods and approaches.
Many of the ideas and resources can be found for free on Gareth's Website 'I See Maths', link below.
A key part of children's maths development is how important it is to consider how we praise our children in their work, focusing on praise for hard work rather than how smart or clever they are.
Further information about this can be found in the Parent/Curriculum/Growth Mindset section of our website.
Thanks to Gareth and to the fantastic turnout of parents at the session.
We've had another busy day today but it's been extra special because it has been a member of our group's birthday! Happy Birthday G.B!
Our action packed day was started off with a hearty breakfast and we were soon on our way to take part in the activities. The activities were similar to the ones that the groups did yesterday afternoon.
We have had great weather here today which made the gorge walking, mountain biking and hill walking all the more fun!
This evening we all went down to the forest where we made dens and toasted marshmallows around a fire. We've also had some time to buy gifts from the shop and are now all tucked up in bed. Looking forward to our final morning at Pentre together tomorrow but firstly lets hope for a good night's sleep!
So we have completed our first day at Pentre and what a jam packed day we have had! :-D
After arriving here, we were shown to our dorms where we made our beds and unpacked our belongings. We had a fire drill and then went to get our kit and wellies from the climbing hall/chapel. Then it was lunch time!
After we ate it was time for the 'real' excitement to begin...our activities!
The activities we did were soggy gorge walking, thrilling mountain biking and exhilarating indoor climbing. We had so much fun and definitely challenged ourselves throughout the afternoon!
Once our activities came to an end we headed back to the centre for tea followed by a lengthy 'night walk' where we hiked through the hills and forests around the centre.
Now we are all back at the centre relaxing with a hot chocolate and a film before we head to bed ready for day 2.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
