Keep up to date with all the latest news in school and on the website.
Today we have begun our work with Chester Zoo's Safari Ranger who will be visiting us to deliver workshops during the summer term. Anya, the Safari Ranger, has spent the day in KS2 working with each class in turn.
The children have been learning about native and non-native species of the UK, learning about food chains and the impact of destroying vital parts of any food chain including those that are in our own gardens. The children have learned about being wildlife 'Superheroes' protecting habitats and supporting food chains by building environments such as bug boxes and bug hotels.
We have have been given the task of finding out what the word 'INVASIVE' means before the next session later in April.
The children were very well behaved during the sessions, listening well, working on the tasks given to them and asking great questions. We are very proud of their attitude and Anya is looking forward to her return visits.
Learning Times Tables is an important part of helping your children gain confidence in many areas of maths, although putting them under pressure of time to answer may in fact cause anxiety, so the way they learn is important.
Playing games is a fun and enjoyable way to help children learn their tables.
Go to the Parents Curriculum section to find links to a range of games to support your children in learning their tables.
We would like to say a huge 'Thank You' for your generous donations in aid of Sport Relief. We raised £119.25 on the day, with more to come in.
The children took part in a range of sporting events and also learned about many of the worthy causes that Sport Relief donates its money to. The children found out about the lives of many children around the world who are much less fortunate than they are. There are photos of some of the Sport Relief activities on some of the class pages.
All of the children in KS2, from Year 3 to Year 6, have been developing their coding and programming skills over the last couple of days. Thanks to a grant from the Joyce Hatton Trust, we were lucky enough to have some expert input, from Arwel Williams of TechnoEd, to teach the children to write code using the 2Code programme in Purple Mash and also using LOGO in Year 6.
The children had a great time, learned new skills very quickly and have now taken their first steps to be budding computer programmers of the future.
The children (and parents and carers) at Northop Hall School never cease to surprise us with their effort and ingenuity when we have events such as World Book Day in school. Pupils throughout the school came dressed as book characters and enjoyed a range of activities including book quizzes, story mapping and work linked to book characters.
We started our day with a 'read around' where members of staff chose a book to share and the children signed up to go to the story they wanted to hear most. Stories ranged from Percy the Park Keeper to the Queen's Knickers and Horrid Henry to extracts from Harry Potter.
We appreciate your support with events like this as it raises the profile of books and reading.
Some class pages have additional World Book Day photos and news.
We are very proud to announce that we have been successful in our renewal of our Platinum Status as an Eco School.
As one of the first schools in Wales to be awarded an Eco Flag back in 1995, we have continued to promote the Eco Schools ethos across the school. We were then amongst the first, small group of schools to be awarded Platinum status in 2001 for our continual work towards Eco Schools.
This Platinum Eco Schools Award has now been successfully renewed for the second time.
Our work in upgrading our Forest Schools area was a significant part of last year's plan and it is great to see it being used by pupils throughout the school.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
